Who can ever say no to some fun in the sun! While we enjoy the outdoor activities we participate in this summer, we must also remember to put our well-being first.
If not careful, the summer heat can be a problem. So we’ve gone and listed our 5 tips for exercising in the summer heat.
The biggest challenge with exercising in summer is staying hydrated. Make sure no matter what you do, you always have a bottle of water with you. This will help maintain the body’s electrolytes and salt because when you sweat, your body loses not only water but electrolytes and salt, too.
Tip two: Choose the time of the day you’ll be outdoors carefully. Try to avoid exercising from 10 am to 3 pm because that is the hottest time of day. If anything, the early morning is said to be the best time to workout.
The clothes you wear are also very important. Try to wear loose, light-coloured clothes as the lighter colours will help reflect heat. Cotton clothing items will help the evaporation of sweat so get one or two cotton items.
What’s cool is you could try specially designed, “hi-tech” running shirts and shorts. They are often made from material meant to keep you cool.
Tip four is the most important: Sunscreen! Head on to Clicks and grab some SPF 45 to be safe. Protecting your skin from the sun is extremely important. Remember, you can even get sunburned on cloudy days.
Lastly, always check the weather forecast to plan your outdoor activity accordingly and remember to have fun! Whether it’s long walks in the park, swimming at the beach or any outdoor activity make sure fun is the order of the day! See HERE.
