School Holiday Activities
Lifestyle Apr 09, 2018
Make the last few days of school holidays productive with these great ideas. Read and extract, from these, some strategies which are applicable to and will help your family stay organised.
• Appointments and Check-ups
Make last minute appointments and check-ups which could be a difficult to do during school terms/semesters. Such as visiting the Optometrists at Rosebank Mall: Vision Works and Spec-Savers or visit the nurses at Dis-chem or Clicks for a check-up.
• Schedule Study and Activity Time
Plot your kids’ schedule on a calendar and familiarise them with this. Share with your partner the family calendar schedule – a consolidated calendar with all members’ activities. This will prevent over-scheduling and establish parental duties and time-off. You can also set and incorporate learning/reading goals into these schedules, for the children to achieve and the parents to check.
Inspect the condition of the kids’ sportswear and equipment and visit Rosebank Mall’s Cross Trainer, Sportscene, Totalsport or Mr Price Sport for anything you might require.
Sort through and purchase the supplies, such as a book bag, stationery, specific requests from the school for a subject. Letting the kids pick their own items, within reason, will get them excited about using these supplies and returning to school. These can be found at CNA, Cardies, Typo, Pick n Pay at Rosebank Mall.
Ensure the kids pre-read any material or text-books which they will be covering in the coming term. Make this routine before each school term, from a young age and they will surely see the benefits. Once read, make a game out checking their knowledge on the subject.
For the two weeks before the return to school, get them back into routine with sleep times and chores done at the times which they would be during the school term. Establish and enforce weekday/end sleep times and chores. They may be hesitant, but it will ease their transition into the new and busy school days ahead. This is also the right time to refresh any rules to be enforced.
• Switch off
Make sure they get a break from technology. This could include a day in nature such as going to the beach, stay at the pool with outdoor games, cultural visits to museums or a day at your favourite shopping centre, Rosebank Mall. With one of our many restaurants including Europa, Mugg & Bean. Alternatively, visit the Rosebank Mall Art and Craft Market for a fun-filled day with the family.
• Switch On
Contradictory to the above, spend some time with your kids while they play their games (Nintendo, PS, smartphone, iPad). Get involved by playing the games they play, if they will let you. This will result in quality time with them as well as provide insight into their perspective and why they enjoy specific games.
• Change it up
Clean or spruce up the study/homework area in your home. Make it an organised and exciting place for the kids to be and want to go. For an arsenal of ideas and accessories visit Mr Price, @Home or Coricraft, Rosebank Mall.
• Stay Fresh
Get them feeling good about returning to school by making them look good for school. A new haircut/style from Sorbet MAN, MosDefinite Salon could do the trick. Make your appointment today!
• Focus on you
Last, but not least, book yourself in for some ‘Mommy’s Alone Time’ with one of our beauty tenants, such as Dermalogica, Placecol, Sorbet and Sorbet Dry Bar.
