Where we salute the courage of our women

Women’s Day: where we salute the courage of the women of our country.
Women’s Day is one of our most special public holidays. It commemorates the 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings in 1956. They were protesting a Apartheid pass law that required black South Africans to carry a passport for their own country.
Some of our country’s staunchest supporters of human rights stood up to the threat of retributive force on that day. Every year on 9 August, we honour them.
And that makes August Women’s Month. A month we contemplate the role South African women play in our society today. In their roles as nurturers, teachers, healers, and leaders. We have much to be proud of: no longer when we say ‘healers’ we refer to women by their traditional role as nurses. Today, our country is filled with women doctors, some of whom are highly specialised and renowned as the best experts in their field… globally.
There was a time when the only lecturers and professors at University were men. Not anymore. Women contribute to building our fields of knowledge to an immense degree.
And when we refer to women as nurtures, we mean those mothers who work hard, dealing with the same complex stresses men do, and yet juggle every aspect of their lives. Including seeing to their children’s needs and being loving moms. Even grandmothers these days work hard, for their families, either out of necessity or because they love what they do so much – when you do what you love, for instance, work becomes a favourite hobby.
Yet all through this, a woman needs to provide. Provide the essentials, whether clothing, food, or even entertainment (it’s essential to keeping the kids from getting up to mischief). Rosebank Mall, of course, features all of that. Best of all, our mall is designed to be easily accessible for you to enter and exit, to find your way, and to entertain you as you go about your business.
When you get a chance, there’s plenty to enjoy: coffee shops, art exhibitions, and, of course, our famed Cinema Nouveau.
Whatever it is you love doing, we have it at Rosebank Mall. Even while you’re busy with the hustle, our mall is designed to make the bustle better.
Happy Women’s Day, women of South Africa. We salute you.
