5 Summer Steps for Healthy Living
Lifestyle Nov 14, 2017
Summer can be both fun and a bit uncomfortable, considering the rising temperatures and sun!
As the year comes to an end, we also feel like shutting everything out and just relax. Despite all this, we still need to maintain a healthy lifestyle and we have listed our 5 summer steps for healthy living for your enjoyment!
1. Distress and stress less
The year is winding down, but the stress levels seem to still be high. Now, to adjust your stress levels, plant a small garden, cultivate a flower box, or if you have limited space go on and plant a few flower pots, either indoors or out.
Experts say having your hands in soil is “grounding.” Also, they add, when life is going too fast, being mentally grounded can help relieve physical and mental stress.
2. Get some exercise
Now, this goes without saying, exercise is good for a healthy lifestyle! This summer, why not pick one fun outdoor activity, it could be hiking, nature walks, games with the kids or swimming. Outdoor exercise is great because you get the feel of the fresh air instead of that indoor gym workout. Also, a family that plays together not only gets fit together but also develops a special time to bond.
3. Opt for Lite Alcohol
Use this summer to opt for light alcohol instead of the hard liquor you’d go for. Choose a light, chilled alcoholic beverage, possibly one that offers different flavours. For example, a sangria – a table wine mixed with juice – a cold beer, or a wine spritzer is all refreshing but light. Remember, even though it’s light, these drinks still have alcohol so drink it in moderation. Experts advice one to two drinks daily would be sufficient. Shop HERE for your beverages!
4. Get proper sleep
Now holidays call for some sound rest, but that hardly happens. Try not to stay up too late during the holidays and instead pay attention to good sleep hygiene. This can be done by keeping the same bedtime and wake-up schedule and not drinking alcohol three hours before bedtime.
5. Get that berry boost
We love berries! Not only will they help you load up on antioxidants, which help prevent damage to tissues and reduce the risks of age-related illnesses, but they are high in fibre, which helps keep cholesterol low and could help prevent some cancers. Head to Pick n Pay to get your basket of fresh berries.
So make sure you have a cup of mixed fresh berries like blackberries, blueberries, or strawberries every day. Enjoy the summer!
