Mother’s Day Ideas: how to show mom you appreciate her.
Mother’s Day Ideas. Even though 1 May was Worker’s Day, the second Sunday of every May is Labour Day. As in, your mom went through labour in order to bring you to the world. And we celebrate this act, and the countless acts since then, of motherly love by treating our moms to a special day.
Whether the mother you’re celebrating is the mother of your children or your own parent, we gift them with much needed TLC.
At Rosebank, your favourite mall, we endeavour to provide the perfect place to not only shop for mom, but to provide entertainment and eateries too.
Restaurants on Mother’s Day.
Whet your appetite for choice. We have numerous restaurants at which to treat mom. Share delightful bacon and pepperoni pizzas at Andiccio24 – most people would agree: they have best pizza in town. And carbs don’t count on Mother’s Day. Or enjoy the all-day La Carte menu at Caramello’s. Afterwards, you’ll have the finest selection of cakes to indulge in. Otherwise, drop by Mugg & Bean for sandwiches, burgers, and a cuppa of the good stuff. If mom is of the more intellectual bent, enjoy coffee or tea at the Exclusive Books Café. There’s plenty of books to peruse and discuss while there. You and mom can catch up on politics if it’s your mom. If it’s your wife, you can enjoy the children’s books with the kids (and maybe purchase one they especially like when it’s time to go home).
Whatever you select, you’ll be able to do a bit of a treasure trove hunt afterwards at the Rosebank Sunday Market – where goodness knows what you’ll find amongst the stalls trading in jewellery, arts & crafts, second hand books, and more!
Presents for Mother’s Day.
Perhaps mom is a bit of a book nerd. In which case, get her a nice novel or work of non-fiction at Exclusive Books: the premiere destination for literature of all types, from politics to science to philosophy to romantic tales to rip-roaring thrillers.
The biggest new fiction to come out is King of Kings by Wilbur Smith, Namibia’s best-selling author. He weaves a story of two lovers who are broken asunder by vindictiveness and intrigue. Going their separate ways, one ends up on an adventure through the jungles of Africa, the other in the opium dens of Cairo. The latter rescued by an old friend who is part of the Italian Army, which sets its sights on Abyssinia. War is brewing, and the ex-lovers are on opposite sides of it. Will true love emerge triumphant against the odds or will darkness follow?
(Spoiler: even though we haven’t read it, we have a feeling romance wins the day.)
Then there’s real politick with Gangster State by Pieter-Louis Myburgh. This controversial book makes serious claims about a senior politician and his role in state capture. It is gripping, thrilling, and nerve-wracking..! Mom can determine her own opinion about the book once she’s read it, but if she has any interest in politics, this one is for her.
Maybe mom needs an upgrade to her phone. If she’s into Android, then the recently released Samsung Galaxy S10 will certainly impress her. It comes in three versions, depending on your budget and her upgrade plan. But the largest, the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus, has an amazing three cameras on the back. Your stock standard for normal shots. A telephoto lens. And a wide-angle lens, which she’ll love – because it’s perfect for family get-togethers. She’ll be able to fit everyone in the frame.
And we’re talking print-quality photos here, so whether it’s of the kids or the grandchildren, she’ll be able to have physical memories forever.
If she’s more of an Apple gal, the iPhone Xs, released last year, will make her very happy indeed. It features snappy fast response times and a gorgeous (and long!) screen with a full gamut of colour richness.
While it doesn’t have a wide-angle lens, it takes incredible portrait shots (where the background is blurred and the subject of the photo is shown in extreme detail and seems to ‘pop’ out the photo) as well as portrait selfies. Add in the ability to record top-notch 4K video at an astounding 60 frames per second, and you have a phone that’s a powerful creative tool. Especially when you take into account iMovie, Apple’s unique movie-making app that makes editing clips super easy.
All the major cellphone service providers are at our mall, so you can get mom’s new phone there.
If your budget is a bit smaller than the circuits used to power those phones, you can have a look at Poetry, a very special store indeed. It offers a wide-selection of items sourced from around the world. Sure, it sells clothes. But there are also many hidden gems to uncover. Items that range from playing cards to stationery to laptop covers – you’ll definitely find something that shows mom you care without busting the bank.
There are also lovely cards you can use to write your Mother’s Day message. But if you don’t find what you’re looking for, visit CNA. They most certainly will have something in their selection to express your love.
We hope this blog of ideas helps you make the most of Mother’s Day. And that you treat mom with the love and respect she deserves.
Here’s to the Mother of all Days!
