Spring clean your life!
It’s almost here!
Spring is almost here! We’re about a week from it officially starting. But in all honesty, we’ve already felt the change in season (never mind one or two cold fronts we’ll probably still have).
And what’s the best activity to do when spring arrives? Get cleansing. Start the new warmer months refreshed now that we don’t have to hibernate anymore. (Although we will miss snuggling on the couch with our honey-bunnies under a warm blanket watching Netflix on TV. But we won’t miss the positively painful experience of being in a shower and trying to exit it as we slowly become a popsicle.)
Anyway, it’s time for much needed clearing out. The junk. The physical and the metaphysical.
Clearing out my cupboards.
We tend to accumulate non-decaying rubbish over the years. Broken fans and heaters. Cardboard boxes. Iffy photos of our exes. (They look iffy now, but back when we were lovey-dovey, we thought differently. Never mind. We were younger, more stupid then.)
It can seem an impossible chore to get rid of so much… stuff. It really piles up. But clearing that space is worth it. Best thing to do? Get a handyman to come with a few guys in a bakkie. Leave all the junk somewhere specific and have them remove it. Where? Who knows? A garbage dump is perhaps the best place, but your handyman probably has some ideas. And you’ll have cupboards again! (To slowly over the years accumulate even more junk! It’s habitual.)
You can also go through your wardrobe. You’ll find clothes with stains or holes in them or for whatever reason you no longer wear (cordies, hello? The ‘90s are calling, they want their fashion back). Donate it to charity. Give it to the homeless. It’s easy. Just stuff it all in a black bag and drop it off somewhere. More space!
Speaking of getting rid of junk…
We mentioned honey-bunny earlier. Now, in winter people tend – more likely – to stick together even if the relationship isn’t exactly what it used to be. You are partly using them as a self-sustaining water bottle and occasionally to really raise the temperature levels even higher. But now…
Now you may be wondering if your issues are worth trying to work out. We mean, maybe Mr (or Ms) Right was more like Mr (or Ms) Right Now. If so, consider breaking up. We don’t want to encourage a true-blue solid relationship to end, but they’re in no danger of it reading this article anyway. The readers pausing for thought though… yeah… there’s a reason for that.
Because a relationship, like a cupboard full of junk, doesn’t necessarily allow that space to be filled with something more positive. So, bidding farewell and moving on with your life could open you to actually getting involved with the right person for you.
If so, sweep them out the house!
Let’s get physically cleansed too!
Spring is a great time to get into an exercise routine. The days are longer. The evenings warmer. It’s just much easier to get into a routine and keep to it. Especially since spring tends to warm up people’s moods, which motivates them to make a commitment to do something discipline-orientated and keep at it. Join our Planet Fitness, for instance!
It also makes for a great time to start a new diet, a healthy one of course, accounting for all the major food groups (and no, chocolate is not a food group). Here’s a thought. Invest in a blender. Get fresh fruit and veggies from your nearby health market (like Pick n Pay at Rosebank) and make yourself some really healthy smoothies.
Spring clean the brain while you’re at it.
Also worth considering is clearing the cobwebs from your mind by starting a new course. Maybe something online? You should also consider some of the educational books available at Exclusive Books. With subjects like history, science, philosophy, and religious studies, instead of your typical page-turner thriller, you’ll really stimulate your brain and give it a fresh perspective on things. There is a multitude of famous writers (famous for espousing really fantastic ideas and theories about, well, us, and the world we inhabit).
For instance, the book Sapiens, still a chart-topper, will change your view of the very idea of fiction and what it means to us humans since it evolved and changed us forever.
Some books are entertaining. But to spring clean your mind, read the rich, stimulating ones that communicate concepts and ideas that will freshen your outlook. Break the mould. In this case, a brain gone mouldy.
And, as we’ve said many times, our Cinema Nouveau is an experience of cinema as it is meant to be experienced. Bold, thought-provoking, emotive. Visit it more often this spring!
And that’s how you do it.
We hope we’ve given you some great ideas on how to spring clean your life. And it never has to stop either. Except for the part about sweeping your partner out the door regularly. Only do that as needed.
