Weather the winter with a new way to be entertained.
Your breath steams the air before you, as you sit hunched high up on the thick tree branch. Redcoats, in formation, walk through the snow below, with their muskets carried proudly. Your off-white coloured coat and deep cowl doesn’t betray you in the white wintery atmosphere. The soldiers, so proudly marching on, don’t realise they’re about to have a really bad day.
As their leader, some sergeant or other, walks directly beneath your position while leading his troops, you drop down. You land on top of him and hatchet the back of his head with a tomahawk, before swooping around and attacking the squadron. They can barely react before you’re upon them.
With a few deft moves, carnage ensues, blood flows on the snow, and you stand triumphant over defeated foes.
How to spend this winter: switching up your game.
We’re all a little cold. Fine wining and dining has given way to nights at home as the cold months settle in.
There’s a lot you can do, though, such as lying next to the heater wrapped in a blanket while reading a good book. (Or buying a series from Musica, and binging.)
But it’s just as much fun becoming the main character instead of watching or reading about him or her.
A great home entertainment system, for both you and the family, is the Nintendo Switch. If you don’t have one yet, visit Incredible Connection (in our mall, obviously!) and make the purchase. There’s a ton of family-friendly games for it, such as – well – anything featuring the world’s most famous plumber, Mario, in it.
But one game we really recommend (for the history buffs) gets released this month, and that’s Assassin’s Creed III: Remastered.
While a violent game (and therefore only appropriate for the more mature children), it presents history in an exciting way. Set just prior, during, and following the American War of Independence from the British Empire, you’ll learn about something not often taught in our own South African schools. And the history of North America, as experienced from the point-of-view of a half Native America / English warrior, is certainly fascinating.
Why it’s awesome…
The Switch is great for the kids when it’s time to go on holiday too. They can unplug from the TV and turn the gaming console into a hand-held mobile machine. It helps in the car to keep them entertained on road trips.
If you’re not a family person, then it’ll suit you perfectly too, as we are about to hit June. When it gets late, and you’re cold, but not yet done on your important adventure through New York, Boston, or the wilderness outside them in the late 1700s…
Well, you can simply switch things up a little. Get into bed with your new best friend, duvet atop of you, and continue the fight against the evil Templars.
(We haven’t mentioned them yet, but they’re basically the main villains in the Assassin’s Creed gaming series, and all you really need to know is they’re about taking control.)
Literally keep pushing the buttons of the main character so he helps deliver his people from tyranny.
The Switch is amazing for going from console for a big-screen TV to portable gaming device in a matter of moments. Allowing you to keep the action going even as you snuggle into your bed.
We can’t imagine a better way to wait out the winter. Sink pirates. Hunt game in forests. Fight the good fight against a devious enemy. Learn about a fascinating period of history. Meet famous people, like George Washington. And get a new way to be entertained in the bargain.
